Where does the time go? And so it seems that the holidays are upon us once again. We wish you all the best this season and hope that it is filled with family and friends. The elephants have had a good year thanks to everyone’s generous support. The AEACP is proud to continue our efforts and we are looking forward to undertaking many more important projects in the years to come.

hello from Sri Lanka!

Endangered Artists: A Benefit for Asian Elephants
We would like to again thank Wesley Wang for graciously hosting the Endangered Artist Benefit back in September. The event was a smashing success with an amazing turnout and great energy. When all was said and done, a total of $12,000 was raised for elephant conservation. Our sincere gratitude goes out to everyone who attended as well as to guest speaker, Nick Marx, and the Wildlife Alliance team that helped organize the event. It is good to know that so many people are doing so much for these beautiful animals.

Upcoming Events
We are looking forward to what 2010 has in store. The AEACP is currently discussing the possibility of doing exhibitions and fundraisers in Washington DC, California, and Wisconsin over the course of this next year. Details are also being worked out for the 2nd Annual Trunk Show to be held later next year. More on all of this to come.
Even with these exciting events on the horizon, we are always on the lookout for new exhibition venues, speaking opportunities, and fundraising ideas. If interested in bringing Elephant Art to your city, community, or neighborhood, please let us know as we are happy to discuss various ideas.
ELEPHANT NEWS

Millennium Elephant Foundation
We are happy to formally announce the addition of the Millennium Elephant Foundation [http://www.eureka.lk/elefound/] in Kegalle, Sri Lanka as a member elephant camp of the AEACP. MEF takes in and cares for abused and injured elephants from around the area. Along with the addition of MEF, we welcome two new female artists to our roster of elephants, Lakshmi (age 39) and Rani (age 28). I had the pleasure of working with the elephants’ mahouts, Jayasena and Chandana, while teaching the two ladies how to paint. Both elephants took to the task after about three days of training. Each has a raw organic style but both show great promise in their artistic endeavors. Click here to see some of Lakshmi or Rani’s paintings.

Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage (Sri Lanka)
The AEACP is currently working with the head of the Sri Lanka Wildlife Conservation Society, Mr. Ravi Corea, and Mr. Nick Marx of the Wildlife Alliance [www.wildlifealliance.org] to see if help can be given to Sama, a poor young elephant at Pinnawela that lost its foot after stepping on a landmine. Nick Marx and the Wildlife Alliance recently had success fitting a young rescued elephant named Chhouk with a prosthetic foot, thus greatly improving his quality of life. We are hoping this landmark effort can be repeated with Sama. Keeping our fingers crossed.
